At least 11 people were injured in about seven hours in shootings across the city Wednesday.
The violence began about 2 p.m. when two people were shot in the 400 block of East 51st Street, police said. A 19-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in the arm and abdomen area, while a 19-year-old woman was listed in "stable" condition after being shot in the arm.
At 3:25 p.m., a 17-year-old was shot in the torso in the 5500 block of South Peoria Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. He was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
At 4:31 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the 1800 block of South Carpenter Street in the Pilsen neighborhood, police said. He was standing on the corner when suspected rival gang members approached and exchanged words. A rival gang member took out a gun and fired shots, striking the man.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the lower right jaw and was taken in “stable” condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
At 4:53 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the upper left arm after someone approached him on foot in the 700 block of East Bowen Drive in the Oakland neighborhood, police said. He was hospitalized in good condition.
Three people were shot at 7:22 p.m. in the 2700 block of West Wilcox Street in the Garfield Park community, police said. They were standing on the street when gunfire was heard. One man was struck in the left foot, a 29-year-old man was shot in each arm, the abdominal area and chest, and a 27-year-old man drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital where police were notified.
At 8:18 p.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the back and arm in the 6800 block of South Wood Street in the Englewood neighborhood and was taken to an area hospital in "stable" condition, police said.
A minute later, an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 20-year-old man was shot in both legs in the 1900 block of South Troy in the Lawndale neighborhood. The man shot in one leg was listed in good condition at an area hospital, while the other man was hospitalized in "stable" condition.
Police said nobody is in custody for any of the shootings Wednesday night.
